3 Tips for a weekend trip to Southtyrol. It’s a combination of activity and relaxation
I am in love with the atmosphere in Southtyrol. The boarder is super close to where I grow up although I never get tired by the flair, the beauty of nature, the people and of course the cuisine with its deliciously selected wine.
Here are 3 tips for a weekend trip to Southtyrol
Enjoy: Food and Wine in Merano
Staying in Merano is always something special and unique as I just like to explore and walk through the little old town. Usually its crowded and I always have the problem to chose the best restaurant to sit and enjoy lunch as there are too many good ones. 🙂 Its a great place to do some shopping and having good wine.
Relax: Infinity Pool @ 4* Superior Hotel Vinea in Dorf Tirol, Merano
Extraordinary place in Dorf Tirol in Merano. When I was walking through the doors I felt like home, such positivity and warm love I got when arriving. Fam. Rohrer welcomed us with a lovely walk through the house. They built the hotel two years ago with a concept which is amazing. Every detail is thoughtful which makes it a wonderful stay. We had our room on the 6th floor with an amazing view towards Passeier Valley. Sunrays woke us up every morning and when I was stepping out on the terrace I could see how the grapes got inspired by the morning sunrays. Romantic and idylic place to be and to fully get away from daily stress. Not to forget the sunset swim with wonderful color blocking.
The room felt like a private apartment, huge, kitchen, private bath on the terrace and a bed with a wonderful view. We had all what you could dream of including some local red wine made out of the family vineyard. We enjoyed it while watching sunset on the rooftop. Wonderful.
Start your day right. BREAKFAST DELUXE.
First day: yoga with a view and theeeen… As you might know I am a breakfast lover and I am addicted to freshly squeezed smoothies and juices in the morning. I love to choose between poached and scrambled eggs. The most difficult thing to choose was the table to sit at and which view we wanted to enjoy while having a majestic breakfast. Although we managed to get the best spot for us.
The first day of our stay we did not really do any sports as we wanted to have a long sleep, wake up late, enjoy breakfast/brunch, relax on the pool and simply do nothing except of enjoying the here and now. So basically lying on the pool and relaxing in the sauna that was it.
Its always a pleasure to enjoy the city by chairlift and so we explored the chairlift which departures 2 min away from the hotel. The hotel is located on a perfect spot with an amazing 360 degrees view.
Back at the hotel we ordered food, some wine and enjoyed the time on the rooftop. Again. Quiet. Amazing Retreat.
Activity: Exploring the Spronser Joch
Next morning our goal was to run from Pfelders to Dorf Tirol above the Spronser Joch. We organised a taxi which drove us for about 45 min to Pfelders. Its a small but beautiful place and also a great ski resort in the winter. We got off at Pfelders village close to the gondola and from there we started walking towards the Faltschnalalm. The track runs through larch wood, which was beautiful.
Passing the Alm the valley opens up towards the Faltschnaltal. The path follows the little creek over grassland into a long valley. We ran most of the track as it was just perfect for running, not too steep. The last bit towards the Faltschnaljöchl we walked and passed cows and horses on the way.
From the Jöchl we had a wonderful view towards the Texelgruppe, the Lodner and Hohe Weiße, peaks which looked simply stunning. Towards the Spronser Joch the track is quite exciting, lots of huge rocks, stone slabs and stone men. After around 1, 5 H we reached the Spronser Joch and got blown away by the stunning view over in total 7 lakes.
We started walking towards Dorf Tirol and passed a lovely hut called Zil-Schafhütte, we enjoyed local food including self made Apfelstrudel.
After having a nice lunch we decided to walk down all the way to Dorf Tirol. The track was very steep and long. It took as another 1, 5 / 2 h to walk. We finally arrived at the top of the village where we reached a bus to get back to the hotel.
